Do you ever wonder why college admissions officers care about people being “well-rounded”? Here are a few of my theories:
One, alumni love to see current students excel at activities they did when they were in school, and alumni make donations to their alma maters AND pay for tickets to watch current students perform (sports, music, plays, etc.).
Two, colleges want to make sure that a student can “hack it”—that is, be able to balance student life with academics and graduate successfully.
Three, colleges want to produce successful people who will be walking advertisements for the effectiveness of the institution. The more pursuits in which you excel, the better you represent your alma mater.
